Glossary

To help guide you with the terminology used as you explore the new ePortfolio interface, we have put together this list of terms and their definitions.

  • Edit View
  • The view in which the user will edit/add content to their ePortfolio, this content will automatically be saved in the system, however, it must be published by the user to be made available to the viewers.


  • Published View
  • The view which visitors to an ePortfolio see. Viewers will only be able to view work that is published, they will not be able to view unpublished or hidden pages. Please note: Unless they are made an Admin. or a Publisher on an ePortfolio, faculty will not be able to see their students ePortfolio work unless it is published.


  • Modules
  • The building blocks of an ePortfolio, modules provide areas to add images, video, text and links to websites or files within any section or page of an ePortfolio. More than one module can be added to a section or page, which allows users full control over how their content is displayed. Drag and drop modules to determine the order in which they are located on a page.


  • Navigation Module
  • The module located in the header slide that contains the navigation for your ePortfolio. This module appears on every page and cannot be deleted. The edit mode of this module brings you to a page where you can create new sections or subpages. You can also apply specific functions to these pages, such as making a page private or a heading or reorganizing the navigation.


  • Content Module
  • Modules that are added to the workspace that contain the content for pages in an ePortfolio. These modules include rich text modules, table modules, image gallery modules and modules that can embed content from various sites. These modules can also be positioned and resized within the workspace..


  • Slides
  • Slides are used to organize content within the pages of an ePortfolio. Each page can contain multiple slides, essentially grouping together similar content.


  • Header Slide
  • The header slide is the top level slide where the navigation is located. This slide can be edited, but not deleted.


  • Instruction Slide
  • Instruction slides provide an area directly within an ePortfolio to share instructions, guidance and resources to aid in the building of an ePortfolio. Instructions slides are only visible to those with admin, editing or publishing access to the ePortfolio, not ePortfolio viewers, even when a page containing an instruction slide is published. Instructions slides can include text, video, audio and files and may be styled just like other slides in the ePortfolio allowing for customization based on the context of the ePortfolio.


  • Content Slide
  • Content slides display the content of your ePortfolio, they are what the viewer of your ePortfolio can see.


  • Workspace
  • The workable area within a slide that you can place and organize content.


  • Navigation Workspace
  • The area in the navigation slide where you can add content, this is where the navigation module lives. In order to create a richer and more inviting ePortfolio, other content could be added as well, including but not limited to, a banner, text, etc.


  • Content Workspace
  • The area where the content of your pages is added and displayed for your audience. This area has a set width, however the height, can be adjusted as more content is added.


  • Library
  • The Library provides a space where users may create and share templates ranging from a complete ePortfolio template, to single prompt slides. The Library also stores the files that are uploaded to an ePortfolio which can be accessed at any time for future use, or added to another ePortfolio. Please note: Although content can be added and deleted from an ePortfolio, files that are uploaded into the Library cannot be deleted. Please choose your content carefully.


  • Templates
  • Templates are pre-designed shells that exist within the library that can be accessed by anyone, granted the permissions have been set to do so, Templates contain all the sections, subpages and modules that a user will need.
